Running a small nonprofit like Change Food is an amazing career and extremely fulfilling.  Being small, we’re nimble and can help others quickly and get programs off the ground fast.  We have the satisfaction of following through on our efforts and seeing the end result.  We consider ourselves social entrepreneurs.

But there are frustrating problems with being a small organization.  If your team is only a couple people, you have to be responsible for raising funds to support the work you’re doing – and that means time taken away from the people you are trying to help.  It also adds a lot of stress to your work because you have to focus on building relationships, submitting grants, following up on them, writing reports and doing a lot of work that takes away from the real work of helping and benefiting others.  And often there are strings that come with funding, so you might have to do work that might not be the best use of your time.

I’m hoping to help change that.  Or, more accurately, I’m hoping you will help change that.  You see, Change Food has been privately funded since its launch, but the funding has ended and we now must raise funds to continue.  Rather than just submit grants to foundations, which we’ve been doing, we are exploring a new way to continue our work.  Patreon.

Patreon is mainly a site for artists and creatives who are looking for monthly donations from fans and benefactors who support their work.  It is also a way to support Change Food.  By becoming a patron, you help us help others.

Patreon is similar to a crowdfunding site, but I think of it more as a community building site.  Patrons (that’s you!) donate amounts from $1 a month to $10,000 a month to support the work of the Creator.  And the Creator (Change Food in this case) offers different rewards for the different levels and gives you opportunities to get involved.  Check us out to see what we’re offering.

Why is this important?  Well, we’re committed to being a force for good, and we sincerely believe that everyone on this planet has the right to healthy, safe, delicious food.  And we don’t want to waste time fundraising for salaries or for supplies to do the work.  So I’m hoping you’ll support Change Food so we can continue to change the food system.

A $1 a month pledge is only $12 a year – that’s cheaper than Spotify!  That’s about 2 cups of coffee or 2 green juices! And your commitment helps children, individuals and organizations around the U.S. – and increasingly world – gain access to better food.

So please support Change Food through Patreon.  Join us as we bring healthy food to everyone.
