Judith LaBelle’s career has been spent at the intersection of sustainable food, land use and community development. She was the founding President of Glynwood, a nonprofit located in New York’s Hudson Valley that is devoted to regional food systems and sustainable development. After serving in that position that for 17 years, she transitioned to retirement by serving as Senior Fellow for two additional years. Judy now spends most of the year in her home in Costa Rica where she continues to pursue her interests through activities in Costa Rica as well as the United States.

Prior to the creation of Glynwood, Judy was a member of the law firm of Berle, Kass & Case in New York City, Corporate Counsel to the National Audubon Society, and Deputy Director and Counsel to the NYS Commission on the Adirondacks in the 21st Century. She has written and spoken extensively on sustainable agriculture and land conservation, including US Department of State Speakers Tours of Germany and Italy.

Judy is a member of the Board of Directors of the GRACE Communications Foundation and of the Advisory Board of the International Land Conservation Network. Judy has also served on the Executive Committee of the Environmental Section of the New York State Bar Association and on the boards of several nonprofit organizations including Scenic Hudson, the Hudson River Foundation and Maya Hands and has served as Chairman of The Preservation League of New York State. Judy has also served as Chair of the Food and Agriculture Task Force of the Hudson Valley Quadricentennial Commission and on the advisory board of Edible Hudson Valley.

Judy received her law degree from New York University School of Law, where she was a Root-Tilden Scholar for the study of public interest law and holds a master’s degree in political science from Rutgers, where she was a Fellow at the Eagleton Institute. In 1990, the Graduate School of Design at Harvard named her a Loeb Fellow in advanced environmental studies.
