Welcome to the Guide 2 Good Food’s Community News section, where every two weeks we provide updates on what the Change Food Community is doing as well as report important, time sensitive news. (The Change Food Community consists of Change Food speakers as well as former TEDxManhattan speakers.)
EVENTS
- The 2016 Food Tank Summit took place in Washington, DC, featuring numerous friends of Change Food, including founder Diane Hatz and Eric Kessler, who will be speaking at this year’s Change Food Fest. You can watch the entire Summit free online.

FACTORY FARMING
- Lance Price of George Washington University and Urvashi Rangan of Consumers Union weigh in on a panel discussing the accuracy of antibiotic usage reporting within the meat industry.
- Congresswoman Chellie Pingree of Maine fought against a spending bill in the House that would prevent small chicken farmers from speaking publicly about their treatment by larger processing companies.

- Tom Colicchio was featured on several news stations, speaking about this season of Bravo’s Top Chef and affording a healthy diet that incorporates whole foods.

HUMAN RIGHTS & POLITICS
- Saru Jayaraman of ROC United was featured in several publications regarding the politics of the restaurant industry and workers rights:
- Wenonah Hauter of the Food & Water Watch writes for the Huffington Post on voting rights and Citizens United.
- Danny Meyer of Union Square Hospitality Group stands by LGBT rights and says he won’t open a Shake Shack in North Carolina in the wake of new “bathroom bills” that restrict usage of bathrooms for transgender people.
ART
- Southern Indiana is the newest location of Sam Van Aken’s Tree of 40 Fruits installation – part research, part conservation, part art.
- Nikiko Masumoto and the Masumoto family sat down with the Fresno Bee to discuss their upcoming documentary, Changing Season: On the Masumoto Family Farm,” which will air on PBS in May.
ANIMAL WELFARE
- The Humane Society’s new headquarters in Washington DC will feature accommodations for animals, allowing employees to bring their pets to work – enhancing animal welfare and creating a positive work environment.
- Wayne Pacelle appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and speaks about the power of consumer knowledge and animal welfare.
