Sonja Trom Eayrs

Dodge County Concerned Citizens

Sonja Trom Eayrs is a farmer’s daughter, rural advocate and attorney.  After graduating from high school, Sonja left the Trom family farm in Dodge County, Minnesota and headed east to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York with her red typewriter and determination.  With her heart in rural Minnesota and missing the joy of fall harvest, she transferred and graduated cum laude from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. A cum laude graduate of Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sonja also holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Tax and Estate Planning from the University of Miami in Miami, Florida.  Sonja is licensed to practice law in the States of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Florida.  Sonja is a family law attorney in Minneapolis, Minnesota and compassionately helps divorcing families. She is a Fellow in the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and has been recognized by her peers as one of the Best Lawyers in America.

In her personal life, Sonja is a ready advocate for rural America.  Her family has been on the front lines fighting industrial agriculture for years.  Encircled by 11 swine factory farms in a 3-mile radius of the Trom family farm, Sonja and her family understand the damage that has been sustained to rural America by large multinational corporations. Sonja’s family members and other local citizens founded Dodge County Concerned Citizens, a grassroots organization determined to fight corporate factory farms.  Sonja has worked and written extensively regarding threats to the environment, public health and corporate consolidation due to industrial agriculture. She has been published in the Star Tribune, Rochester Post-Bulletin, several local newspapers and has been featured on Minnesota Public Radio and AM 950.  Sonja has testified numerous times at the Minnesota Legislature. She is featured in a mini-documentary, The Dark Side of the Other White Meat.  Sonja is a frequent lecturer and has had the opportunity to present at Yale University, University of Minnesota, Carleton College, St. Catherine University, Minnesota State University-Mankato, Assisi Heights Spirituality Center, Spirit Lake Nation, Minnesota Continuing Legal Education, a number of congregations and other venues.

Sonja operates the family farm in Dodge County, Minnesota with her five siblings.
