Wen-Jay Ying is the founder and CEO of Local Roots NYC, a minority, female-owned, community-oriented business that combines grassroots energy, on-the-ground experience, and an obsession with soil health to build the local food utopia they envision – connecting New Yorkers with local family farmers and sustainable regional growers. Wen-Jay started the company at age 26 and was awarded Entrepreneur of the Year by New York City’s Mayor Bloomberg. Her female-led team distributes over 60,000 pounds of sustainable produce a year — connecting 1,500+ New York households with freshly harvested and nutrient-dense food sourced from over 15 family farms and 20 plus small-batch purveyors.
